Tell us about your team and your current role.
I am currently working as a senior software engineer in the Wallet Identity Core team. Our team’s primary focus is on improving pass rates and reducing fraud in our core identity verification flows. We also help support in-person verification as well as improving scalability of our underlying platform.
What do you enjoy most about working at ID.me?
My teammates. My team is composed of some of the hardest workers, all of whom are absolute perfectionists. The devs are always available to pair program or help with a programmatic issue, the PMs are ready and quick to clarify details in a new product, and my manager is extremely supportive in my career. Just looking at the average employee tenure of my team being about 5 years tells you how great it is to work with them.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I love to travel, from quick jaunts to New York City to global adventures. As a DC resident, I frequently partake in all of the cultural experiences the city has to offer. Fom meeting foreign dignitaries in embassy tours to sunset strolls along the tidal basin, there is never a dull moment in the city.
Being a foodie, I relish trying out new restaurants with my partner and exploring diverse culinary experiences. Recently, I’ve rekindled my interest in video games, with my favorites including Uncharted and any good simulation game.
What is the best career advice you have ever received?
You need to know when to be a mentor and when to be a mentee. Sometimes you need to step back to step up. While I loved to coach new hires on my team, technology is always rapidly changing. Knowing you can depend on your colleagues to help when you are struggling with something and knowing you can ask for help is the best career advice I have ever received.
What is special about ID.me compared to other identity verification companies on the market?
ID.me stands out by offering comprehensive verification methods, including document verification and facial recognition, and it is one of the few identity verification providers approved by the federal government. Its single sign-on capabilities and additional security enhancements such as MFA improve user experience and data protection. Unlike other providers, our commitment to accessibility further makes ID.me a reliable choice for identity verification.
And we also have really cool swag.
What is it like working on your team at ID.me?
Every day is exciting – there is no such thing as a “slow” week. Even while you are working on your own individual projects, you will often have an opportunity to help out with something new, whether that’s pairing with your teammate on an issue or helping monitor and facilitate internal communications during a third-party vendor outage. I am very grateful to be in a team with so many talented engineers. Every win, no matter how large or small, feels like a team success.
Which is your favorite ID.me value and why?
“Ask questions like a 5-year old.”
Even as a senior developer at the company, it’s impossible to have a depth of knowledge about everything. Being able to depend on my team and colleagues to deepen my product knowledge makes me more successful within my own role. This company value makes me feel more comfortable being able to ask any question that comes to mind. Sometimes asking the simplest question can lead to collaboration and propel projects forward.
