Digital Government Services Set to Take the Spotlight at NASCIO Midyear Conference

ID.me is thrilled to be a Pinnacle Sponsor of the upcoming NASCIO Midyear Conference in National Harbor, MD, from April 28 to May 1. The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) is a premier network and resource for state CIOs and IT executives leading the development of state IT infrastructure. Our team is honored to play a role in facilitating this meeting and the important discussions that will unfold over the week. As a service provider to 40 agencies across 30 state governments, ID.me wants to dig in with this powerful group to truly understand the challenges facing states today.

This year’s conference comes at a unique moment. For the first time ever, digital government services now share the #1 ranking with cybersecurity in NASCIO’s Top 10 Priorities for 2024, as voted on by 49 state and territory CIOs. Doug Robinson, NASCIO executive director, reinforces the shift: “With the increased demand in digital government services, there is little surprise that it ties for number one on this year’s list. Cybersecurity and digital government are two critical issues for state CIOs and will be for some time.”

CIOs have an increasingly complex role in a world riddled with data breaches and generative AI, all while expectations are increasing for a seamless user experience online. States are facing constant pressure to improve service delivery. While there is no silver bullet, CIOs are developing groundbreaking approaches to the challenges they are facing. ID.me sees value in understanding CIOs’ priorities at a deeper level, and we want to listen to and learn from these approaches. With the 2024 State CIO Top 10 Priorities in mind, here is what we are looking forward to hearing about and discussing at NASCIO:

  • Cybersecurity and Risk Management – How are CIOs protecting their states’ data? What is the risk level from a fraud standpoint? What are the best ways to partner with the private sector to manage those risks?
  • Digital Government / Digital Services – How are CIOs viewing the implementation of statewide citizen portals? What provides the most seamless access for constituents, and how do we keep user experience as a top priority without sacrificing security?
  • Artificial Intelligence – How are states combating the emerging and ever evolving threat posed from AI fraud? And how are they using AI to their advantage in order to protect themselves from these threats? What policies should be considered to ensure that constituents will never be the victim of an algorithm gone wrong?
  • Data Management / Data Analytics – How are states thinking about not only protecting sensitive constituent data, but how are they thinking about putting people in more control over how their data is shared? Are we being transparent with constituents around who is viewing, storing, and sharing data? How do federal government data protection and authentication approaches guide the states’ approaches?
  • Identity and Access Management – What is the role that reusable identity should play within a particular state? How would a portable credential improve a constituent’s experience navigating state agencies and services?

This clearly is not an exhaustive list of topics to discuss, but shows how crucial our commitment needs to be to balance the competing demands placed upon the CIOs of our states.
